Just like our in-person Indigenous Mapping Workshops (IMWs), IMW On Demand offers culturally appropriate and inclusive training in geospatial technologies for Indigenous leadership, agencies, communities, and individuals.
IMW On Demand has been purpose-built for our participants to access culturally appropriate training from across country and community without needing to travel.
Launched in 2020, when we were unable to host in-person workshops, IMW On Demand has passed through its initial phase. In early 2023, we recognised areas for improvement and embarked on a journey of refinement.
We invite you to join us on April 30th 2024 as we reveal the enhanced IMW On Demand.
How does it work?
IMW On Demand is built on Open edX, a software used to deliver online courses, and can be accessed by all IMW participants. Users do not need to have any additional technical skills and it’s free to participate for anyone who has been accepted via the application form.
All courses on the platform are accessible on an ‘on demand’ basis where learning is self paced and participants can fit their learning into their own schedules.
Participants are free to enrol in courses of their choice and are able to complete workshop activities through either desktop learning or using virtual labs.

Will I need to pay for access to learning materials or software?
No. All accepted applicants will have access to the IMW On Demand free of charge. You also aren’t required to pay for any software to participate in workshop materials. We only recommend that your laptop or computer has an up-to-date web browser before commencing any coursework.
Do I still have to submit an application?
Yes. At this point in time, the training offered on IMW On Demand is primarily for Indigenous leadership, agencies, communities, and individuals. Participants will need to complete an application and be accepted before gaining access to the digital content. Applications to access the platform reopen April 30th 2024. Can I still participate in a lightning round?
Absolutely! After your application has been approved you will receive an invitation from us inviting you to participate in a lighting round presentation.
Lightning round presentations will be presented virtually and our team will happily assist you in preparing your presentations.
