FAQs

Is IMW Australia training free?

Indigenous Mapping Workshop (IMW) Australia training will always be free for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Online On Demand training, regional in-person workshops and our national in-person workshop come at no cost to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We are able to provide this offering because of the support from our sponsors who donate funding to cover the costs of the training.

What type of live training is available through IMW Australia?

We offer live training across mapping software Google Earth, QGIS and ArcGIS. We can also provide live training in data foundations and management.

How many in-person workshops does IMW Australia run per year?

Thanks to the support of our funders, we are able to provide free training at four regional or remote locations each year. We also host an annual National Indigenous Mapping Workshop in an Australian city. The 2023 location for our National IMW is Narrm (Melbourne).

Can I volunteer for IMW Australia?

Thank you for expressing your interest to be involved with us! We really appreciate your enthusiasm and willingness to help us achieve our mission.

At IMW Australia, we deeply value the work that volunteers do in this space. How you can help us best at this time is by sharing our platform with some of your Indigenous clients and/or colleagues who are interested in upskilling - we would be most appreciative.

If you would like to volunteer in the future, please fill out the Contact Us form and state ‘Volunteer’ in the subject line. We will get in contact if we have opportunities arise in the future that are closely aligned with your expertise.

The Indigenous Mapping Workshop Australia committee appreciates your support.

I'm an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person or organisation who wants to get involved in First Nations EO

We have a small, and growing, community of other First Nations people from across the country who are interested or already involved in Earth Observation (EO) work. We would love for you to get involved as well!

Please fill out the Contact Us form and state "First Nations EO" in the subject line, and let us know why you're interested in using EO.

I'm a non-Indigenous organisation who wants to be involved with First Nations EO

That's great! We appreciate support for our programming.

At this time, we are still forming our First Nations EO Steering Committee and will need to establish our community leaders in this new space first. However, we would love to hear from organisations like yourself in the meantime.

Please still fill out the Contact Us form and state "First Nations EO" in the subject line, and let us know a bit more about your organisation and expertise.
